CCEL's English for Academic Purposes - Pathway to UC (EAP) courses are for students who want to:

*improve their academic English skills for tertiary study in an English speaking country
*gain direct entry (without IELTS) into CCEL's partner institution, the University of Canterbury (UC)

*Programme - Full-time
*20 hours per week in class + 5 hours of self-study and 5 hours of online study per week
*Levels available - Intermediate to Advanced

At CCEL students can prepare for the internationally recognised academic IELTS examination. Improve your English and learn about exam strategies and topics.

Students can gain internationally recognised qualifications by taking Cambridge Examination courses at CCEL. Cambridge certificates can help students find jobs which require English skills.

*Cambridge English: Preliminary (PET) - low intermediate level
*Cambridge English: First (FCE) - late intermediate/upper intermediate level
*Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) - advanced level

The TKT (Teaching Knowledge Test) is a qualification from Cambridge ESOL. It is for people who want to teach English and develop the knowledge they need to become English teachers. It is also ideal for non-native English speakers who are already teaching English, and who would like to improve their knowledge. There is also the TKT Practical for people who want a certificate for their teaching skills.

*Course length - 8 weeks (full-time study)
*Level in English - intermediate to advanced (minimum 4.5 IELTS)

A semester course combining English language study at CCEL Christchurch with the Christchurch Community Engagement and Volunteer course at the University of Canterbury.

*Course length - 14 or 15 weeks
*Start dates: 13 July 2015
*Full-time 20+ hours per week

Students begin with 1 week of General English at CCEL. Following this, they join the CCEL English for Academic Purposes course for 18 hours per week. Each week they also join the Christchurch 101 course at UC for 3 hours, fitting around their EAP study.

The CELTA (Cambridge Certificate in English Language Teaching to Speakers of Other Languages) is a highly-regarded internationally recognised qualification awarded by Cambridge ESOL. It is for people who have little or no previous English language teaching experience. It is also ideal for more experienced teachers without an equivalent qualification.

Course length – 4 weeks (full-time study)

Applicants should:

*be at least 18
*have an awareness of language and a competence in English, both written and spoken, that enables them to undertake the course and prepare for teaching a range of levels
*have the potential to develop the necessary skills to become effective teachers and to successfully complete the written assignments and the assessment of practice teaching
